Classroom Membership Challenge

Join the CCCK-8 PTSA and your child’s classroom could win an activity of their choice: Board (Games) at School, Escape Room Challenge or Video Game Competition!  The classroom with the highest percentage of memberships by Sept 28 will win!  Each child who has at least one member join on their behalf counts as one.  Teachers count as two for their homeroom classroom!  Members count for each of their students’ grades.  Your membership makes it possible for us to support classroom enrichment, innovation stations and teachers’ wish lists.  As a member, you also have a voice in how we prioritize what we are working on and how we spend our funds in a year.  For more information, contact Tami Lawson, tamikrislawson@hotmail.com  We appreciate your support!

Leaderboard: LAST DAY!!!! To be counted, you must become a member today and we’ll do our final tally over the weekend.  AT PRESS TIME: 4th grade remains in the lead with 6th in second and (out of the blue!!) 5th in in third.  8th grade moves to 4th place.  Anyone can still win!  If you haven’t become a member yet, SIGN UP TODAY!!

Classroom Enrichment Support Fund

Please check your child’s Friday folder for information about our Classroom Enrichment Support Fund.  In recent years, the PTSA has provided a classroom enrichment fund in order to provide financial resources for field trips, guest speakers, and other ways of learning at the classroom level.  This year we are providing $300 per classroom.  Enrichment opportunities often cost between $50 – $300, so we welcome you to contribute to this fund to help the teachers provide these unique learning opportunities.  Any funds you donate will be applied to your student(s)’ classroom fund and will help expand what the teachers are able to do.  You may contribute online at: http://www.ccck8ptsa.org/programs-events/in-school-enrichment/  or send a check with the form provided in the Friday Folder.  In order to maximize the planning time to utilize these resources, please make your donation by October 15th.  Of course, any donation at any time is welcome!

Shop to Support our School!!

Did you know?!?  You can support our school financially JUST BY DOING YOUR NORMAL SHOPPING?!?  Pick up a King Soopers card in the school office, use it while shopping, refill it often, and a portion of your purchases will go to our school.  Do you shop at Amazon?  Switch to Smile.Amazon.com, designate Coal Creek Canyon K-8 PTSA as your organization, and a portion of your purchases will support our school.  (It works exactly the same, including with Prime, but donates a little, too.)

Haunted Halls Support & Continuity

Ms. Norris has graciously agreed to organize the “Haunted Halls” haunted house that is part of our Trick or Treat Street fundraising event which is at the end of October.  She is looking for some support in planning and after school workshops that do NOT require attendance at the event itself.  If you love Halloween, decorating or planning great experiences, this is an awesome, short term, opportunity!  That said, part of the opportunity here is learning from Ms. Norris about what it takes to organize this event as she nears retirement in a couple years.  If you are interested, please reach out to Ms. Norris at jennifer.norris@jeffco.k12.co.us

Teacher Appreciation

UPDATE: I have one person who would like to SHARE this position.  If you were hesitant to take on the whole thing, but are willing to do it with someone else, please contact Jody (contact info below.)  Remember: Many hands make light work… and it is always fun to volunteer with a friend!

Do you like to treat others with gifts or other special treats?  We are seeking a Teacher Appreciation Coordinator.  The position is responsible for organizing two staff dinners, two staff lunches and other teacher and staff appreciation treats throughout the year.  The school staff works hard for our community kids, so we want to show them all the love they deserve!  If you are interested in helping us demonstrate to all our teachers and staff how much we appreciate everything they do, then this is the job for you.  It doesn’t take much time, but it still VERY important.  This position works well as a job-sharing opportunity, if you don’t want to do it by yourself, and community members are welcome to apply!  If you or someone you know might be interested this position, please contact Jody Dickson, jody@dickson.org

Bylaw Modification Vote – October 15th

We will be voting on proposed changes to our PTSA organizational bylaws at our October 15th meeting between 6:30 – 7 pm.

Click here to review the proposed changes When highlighted blue text will be replaced with the text in highlighted in yellow. If there is only yellow, then that text is to be added new.

The vast majority of the changes are required by Colorado and National PTA in order to be in alignment with their bylaws. There are some parts of the bylaw text that we are not allowed to edit. As they change their bylaws, we need to change ours as well. I think the only thing that is a proposed change by us is Article XIV, Section 5 about approving expenses.

Please review the changes and if you have any questions, please let us know as soon as possible. We will be voting to accept or reject these changes at the October 15th General Membership Meeting.

Thank you,

Jody Dickson & Joanna Waggoner
Your PTSA Bylaw Committee

Friday Notes for 8/17/18

image002

PTSA Corner

8/17/18 Friday Notes

Welcome to another wonderful school year at Coal Creek Canyon K8.  We are excited for this new school year!  If you are not familiar with your PTSA, we are your Parent Teacher Student Association.  We are a group of dedicated individuals who work together to enhance our children’s learning experiences and opportunities at our school.  We do this by:

  • Hosting events, assemblies, field trips and after school programs that complement what our kids are learning in the classroom.
  • Organizing volunteers to support our teachers and school staff.
  • Fundraising and buying equipment and supplies that our teachers need in their classrooms but otherwise wouldn’t have access to.
  • Advocating for our children and their needs

Participating in the PTSA is a great way to stay connected to what is happening in our school community.  We count on your support.  Join the PTSA by using the form included with this Friday Flyer or by going online to our website at http://www.ccck8ptsa.org/join-ptsa/ You may turn forms in to the school office or bring it to our pre-Back-to-School night BBQ on August 21st at 5 pm. We look forward to seeing you there and at many of our upcoming events!  We will announce our membership challenge on Tuesday night, too!

PTSA Upcoming Events:

Pre-Back to School Night BBQ
Tuesday, August 21st
5:00 – 6:15 pm

Join us at CCCK8 school and enjoy dinner along with your Coal Creek Canyon K8 family.  Please bring your family and a side dish or dessert to share.  PTSA will provide the main dish and beverages.  Please sign-up to bring something on our sign up: http://signup.com/go/EAcxZMN

Back to School Night Presentation
Tuesday, August 21st
6:00 pm in CCCK8 Gym, then individual Classrooms

We’ll kick off the evening with a presentation by the school and the PTSA.  We’ll be sharing information about what we do, what we can do for you and what we need from you.  After the all-school presentation, there will be two sessions in each classroom for individual grade level presentations.  ALL students will be expected to stay with their parents during the presentations.  We want to make sure that #1.) all the students stay safe during the evening and that #2.) The students hear what their parents hear from their teachers about their expectations.

Event Planner

The events we host throughout the year are very important for both fundraising and community building.  If you are interested helping us to plan our events throughout the year, including Back to School Night, Trick or Treat Street, Men Make A Difference Day, and the talent show/silent auction, then let us know.  This is a big job, so it does not need to be one person.  Just let us know how much or how little you’d be interested in doing.

Our first meeting is September 17th.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Jody Dickson, jody@dickson.org, 303-588-6639.
