12/15/17 Friday Notes
Upcoming PTSA Events
Monthly General Membership Meeting
Monday, December 18th
6:30 – 7:30 pm
The PTSA meeting will be on Monday, December 18th. In the meeting, we will be putting the final touches on our budget and December and January events. We will also be developing action items around our male participation goal. As a special treat, we have two students who will be making a presentation to us about the project they are working on and need help with. Participating in these meetings is a great way to learn about what is happening in our school to make it the best learning environment for our kids.
GOAL PROGRESS: We REMAIN exactly on our goal for 10 people per meeting, so we need 10 or more people to come to Monday’s meeting to continue to meet that goal! Hope to see you there!
Child care is available during the meeting!! The student council has committed to provide child care at each of the PTSA and C3AC meetings, so your kids will be safely having a great time in the gym while you provide your critical input to our activities!
Men Make a Difference Day
January 10th we want to celebrate all the men that love, support and guide the students at our school. Men, bring your kids to school early and have breakfast in the library. Breakfast will start at 8:15. When school starts you can work on a project together and spend time in your child’s classroom. Please stay the day and participate as a science fair judge after lunch.

Family-School Partnership Survey
We want your input and feedback! The Family-School Partnership survey is open until December 20th. Please be sure to take the time to complete it and share your experience, recommendations, thoughts, etc. It is through this critical feedback that we target improvements we can make to improve the partnership. An email was sent in November when the survey opened, but you can also find more information about it on the Jeffco District website: http://www.jeffcopublicschools.org/community_portal/research_surveys/2017_-_18_family_school_partnership_survey/
Join PTSA Today!!
Did you forget to join the PTSA this year? We are significantly behind in our memberships this year, and we need your support! Your membership makes everything we do possible: supporting our school, supporting our students, providing afterschool and enrichment opportunities and gathering input from our school family community. If you haven’t already joined for this year, please join today at http://ccck8ptsa.org/join-ptsa/
Shop to Support our School!!
Did you know?!? You can support our school financially JUST BY DOING YOUR NORMAL SHOPPING?!? Pick up a King Soopers card in the school office, use it while shopping, refill it often, and a portion of your purchases will go to our school. Do you shop at Amazon? Switch to Smile.Amazon.com, designate Coal Creek Canyon K-8 PTSA as your organization, and a portion of your purchases will support our school. (It works exactly the same, including with Prime, but donates a little, too.)
Please help with a BIG Fundraising Goal
For the past year, we have been trying to fundraise for a supplemental reading program that is really important for the students who are struggling with reading early in their education. We already have the “Leveled Literacy Intervention” program for K – 2 grades. Now we are trying to purchase the next level so the students that are still struggling with reading after 2nd grade can continue to benefit from the program. It is a BIG ask, but we think it is really important for the students that need it. Ms. Little has started a Donors Choose campaign: https://www.donorschoose.org/project/eagles-soaring-in-reading/2726973/ Please go online and donate as much as you can. Then forward to friends, family and businesses that you think would help support this important effort.
Teacher & Staff Holiday Luncheon
On December 20th, we will be hosting our teachers and staff to a holiday luncheon in appreciation for all that they do. If you are able to donate food or volunteer during the day to cover front desk, lunchroom and recess duties, please sign up at: http://signup.com/go/AXNvAfR We especially need some help setting up the lunch, if you are able to help late in the morning.
Classroom Enrichment Chair
We decided at the meeting on Monday that we are in need of a Classroom Enrichment Chair again. This person is critical for helping the teachers make enrichment opportunities like field trips, guest speakers, and assemblies happen. There is a little fundraising drive to do, too, within each classroom. If ensuring our students have a rich variety of learning opportunities and inspiring ways to engage with the world, then this is the job for you and is pretty flexible on how much of a time commitment you want to make it. It is still very needed, so your help would be appreciated. For more information, contact Jody Dickson, email@example.com
Eagle Eyes is a program where men are present in the school during school hours, helping the students and staff and keeping watch for good and bad behaviors in and around the school. You do not need to be a dad to participate: Uncles, Grandfathers, Older Brothers, Cousins, Neighbors, Dads are all welcome! To claim your spot, go to this Sign Up form: http://signup.com/go/VqEOBxL If you have any questions about the program, please contact Jason Moat, 303-378-4500
2018 – 2019 Special Events / Teacher Appreciation
Our amazing Laura Graves has announced that she won’t be our Special Events Chair and Teacher Appreciation Chair next year. She has done an amazing job, and we will miss her in this role! She has most graciously offered to help the next person in these roles by showing them the ropes for the rest of this year. If you are interested in planning our events throughout the year, including Back to School Night, Trick or Treat Street, Men Make A Difference Day, and the talent show/silent auction, then let us know right away to take advantage of this time with Laura. This is a big job, so it does not need to be one person. Just let us know how much or how little you’d be interested in doing.
Laura has also been doing all the teacher appreciation work. If you are interested in showing all of our appreciation for our teachers and staff how much we appreciate everything they do by organizing four staff meals over the year and preparing occasional gifts and special treats for them, then this is the job for you. It doesn’t take as much time as the Special Events work, but it still VERY important.
If you or someone you know might be interested in either of these positions, please contact Jody Dickson, firstname.lastname@example.org Feel free to contact Laura, too, in order to get more information.
Stay tuned on our website http://www.ccck8ptsa.org or on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/CCCK8PTSA for more information on upcoming programs. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, concerns, please feel free to contact me.
